rooted, but still growing

So it’s been a while. I suppose I owe my one or two readers a bit of an update considering that at the time of my last posting I was in the midst of a could-be crisis.  Here’s the update: I’m good, Steve is good, the boys are good. Things blew over and although it didn’t work out in a manner in which everyone was completely, 100 percent happy, it did indeed work out. Let’s just say that a sacrifice was made — a big sacrifice — and it wasn’t mine. It’s something that did and forever will astound me, and I’m very, very thankful for it. There isn’t a minute that will pass in my lifetime when I won’t remember what was done …. for me. I’m a lucky, lucky girl. That said, there have been a few changes here in this crazy world I call my life. I can’t remember if I mentioned this before, but I — yet again — got a new job. This time, I really love it. Really. I’m doing marketing and consumer services for a rural electric cooperative in southeastern Ohio and, honestly, it’s the best job I’ve ever had. And for that I’m also thankful, as I was beginning to fear that I was developing some type of serial disorder whereby I would seek a new job every few months. I’ve been at it for six weeks or so, and it’s been super fun. I’m learning all kinds of things about renewable energy, the electric industry, rural people, various products … sounds kinda boring, I know, but I’m nerdy like that and I dig it. It’s really kind of cool how so many members of my soon-to-be family are in the power business. So far, Steve, his brother, his father and myself have been employed by energy, and I’m pretty sure my brother is about to make that leap as well. The even cooler thing is that we’re all in different areas. I’m on the consumer end, while Steve does peaking generation, his brother does coal-fired generation and his dad was a lineman. Speaking of linemen, I got to witness a guy climb a utility pole the other day and was positively spooked. He shimmied up there like a squirrel chasing a nut, going about his job like it was no big deal while I stood on the ground trembling and hoping he didn’t slip! I am definitely NOT a heights girl.

  •  In other news, the wedding planning is progressing, albeit slowly. It’s all right, though — we have more than a year to go. I’m looking forward to jumping in, though, especially dress shopping. Can’t wait!
  • We’re thinking about getting a dog … a beagle puppy to be exact. I’m excited but also a bit hesitant about house training as both of us are gone throughout the day. We’ll see how it goes.
  • Steve and I are planning a family vacation with his brother’s family this summer. K1 and N will be here, and we’re all packing up and heading to the beach for a week. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this trip. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the beach for longer than a weekend, and I’m really looking forward to spending some time just relaxing and hanging with the people I love. Yes, I do love them all; however, I’m still going to pray every day that everyone behaves (and by “everyone” I mean adults, too. Eh HEM, future sister-in-law!)
  • My friend Leann is about to have the baby she’s been wanting for quite some time. In fact, she may have already had him. I know she’ll make a terrific mom and I can’t wait to meet her little baby boy!

I’m typing this in bed and right now, Steve is snoring SO FREAKING LOUD I want to smother him with a pillow. Or at least roll him over. Too bad he gets pissy when I wake him up for snoring. If I do anything I’d probably get booted so I’m just going to try to ignore it.All right, that’s enough mindless drivel for one night. Just wanted to pop back in and let everyone know I’m still here … and doing pretty darn well!
